GORHAM—Lawrence "Larry" Gordon Wright, 89, of Gorham, died peacefully Thursday morning, August 4, 2016, at The Gorham House. Larry was born November 10, 1926 in Lewiston. He grew up in Chesterville on the family farm, and received his education from local schools. He went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army from 1945 to 1947 and again from 1950 to 1951. During his time in the military, he was active in the Occupation of Japan and the Korean Conflict. He married Ethel B. Fowler on June 21, 1952. Larry earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of Maine at Farmington, Master's degree from University of Maine at Orono and also earned a Certificate of Advanced Study. His career was spent in education; he was a guidance counselor in the Falmouth School System, Elementary Superintendent at Bonny Eagle, math teacher in Bath and Millinocket school systems, and taught English at Gorham High School. After over 45 years in education, he retired and went on to work for the Maine Turnpike Authority for over ten years. Some of Larry's favorite pastimes included traveling to England with his grandson, hiking Mt. Katahdin (at age 65), researching family genealogy, and most recently, participating in the Honor Guard Flight in Washington DC. He will be remembered for his delicious molasses cookies and doughnuts. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ethel Wright; children, Debbie Noble and her husband, Al, and Stephen Wright and his wife, Kelly; grandchildren, Shane Noble and his significant other, Suzie, Kyle Wright, and Lauren Wright; and a special family dog, Kaya. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings. Services for Larry will be private. Arrangements are in the care of Dolby Funeral Chapel, 76 State St., Gorham, ME 04038.
