Lawrence Forrest King, 59, of Chesley St. Westbrook, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 12, 2012, after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born on July, 26, 1952, son of the late Forrest and Mildred (Doucette) King. He is survived by his daughter Tressa Libby and her husband Chuck of South Portland, three sisters Dianne LeConte of Westbrook, Beverly Fletcher of Gorham, and Kathy King of Westbrook, five wonderful grandchildren, Justin, Nick, Josh, Jonny, and Joey, along with many beloved nieces and nephews. Larry attended Westbrook schools, the University of Southern Maine, and served in the U.S Coast Guard during the 1970's. He drove for Portland Limousine & Air Freight and as a taxicab driver for over 20 years until his recent retirement. He was a music lover from Bach to the Beatles, and a fine musician in his own right. Playing bass guitar in various bands over the years, he was a writer, poet, and an engaging story teller. Larry was a voracious reader accumulating a diverse collection of books from the great philosophers to the classics. Always up for a healthy debate with a cache of knowledge pertaining to virtually and subject, imparting wisdom in a laid-back fashion, never flaunting his intellect. He was passionate about his garden, and tended to it with care. Everyone loved Larry! He was kind, compassionate, and caring. We will all miss his quick wit, hysterical one-liners, and brilliant mind. "Call me if you need me." At Larry's request services will be private, arrangements by Blais & Hay Funeral Home of Westbrook. A "living" funeral took place on Monday, May 7th, and what a celebration it was! Donations in his memory may be made to Autism Society of Maine, 72B Main St. Winthrop, ME 04364, or Hospice of Southern Maine, 180 US Route One, #1, Scarborough, ME 04074.
