Obituary

On Friday, April 17, 2026, Laurie Anderson passed away peacefully in Scarborough, Maine, surrounded by her family and loved ones. Though her passing was sudden and far too soon, we choose to focus on the joy, love, and resilience she shared and modeled for us every day.

Laurie’s life was a beautiful evolution of roles: she was a devoted daughter and sister who found her greatest purpose as a wife, mother, and “Grammie.” Laurie grew up in Westbrook, Maine, where she met the love of her life, Andy. The two married soon after high school, beginning a lifelong journey filled with love.

Andy and Laurie first built a home together in Portland, where they raised their three wonderful children. During those years, they spent countless summers at the lake, making lasting memories and watching their family grow, surrounded by loved ones at the lake house built by Laurie’s father-in-law, Andrew, and her husband, Andy.

For more than three decades, Laurie was a fixture at Shaw’s supermarket. Most knew her as the face of the deli in her signature white coat and hairnet, but to her children, she was the person they could always pop in to visit just to interrupt her day with endless perceived needs.

When she was ready for a new chapter, Laurie brought that same caring spirit to a local school in the town where she grew up, spending her days feeding children and cherishing extra time with a couple of her granddaughters.

Laurie was a woman who knew what she liked and saw no reason to change it. She found genuine contentment in the comfort of routine, whether tending to her garden, visiting her favorite local stores, or cheering on her granddaughters as they thrived in their sports and activities. She valued the familiar, from Wednesday wing nights to pizza runs to her favorite spot, and any excuse to skip cooking and head out with her husband was a welcome one.

Later in life, they moved to that very lake house, the place that had helped shape their children’s childhoods—and it became a special home for their three granddaughters as well. Laurie and Andy made the lake their home, creating unforgettable memories for family and friends, blending cherished traditions of the past with the joy of the future. Laurie truly loved the lake and embraced all it had to offer.

She is survived by her lifelong love and best friend, Andy; their three children: Derek Anderson and his wife, Nicole; Keith Anderson and his wife, Shannon; and Ashlie Anderson and her significant other, Ryan Bentivegna. She is also survived by her cherished granddaughters, Taylor, Abigail, and Ensley; her brother, Jeff Babb, and his significant other, Lauren Gerry; along with many loving extended family members and dear friends who were like family to her.

Laurie was predeceased by her parents Richard and Jean Babb; brothers, Scott Babb and Chris Babb.

Please join us as we celebrate her life on the very day she first fiercely entered this world. We will gather on August 8 at 1:00 pm at the place she loved the most, the lake, to share stories and laughter, 80 Brown Cove Road Windham, ME.
