LAURI ALBERT (Monden) MONDENE JR., 82, died unexpectedly Oct 14, 2022 at Winship Green Rehabilitation Center, Bath, ME where he was in rehabilitation for Dementia. Born to Finnish parents, on May 16, 1940 in Worcester, MA. He was raised along with his brother Robert (Monden) Mondene later by his grandparents, living in Rockport, Maine where he attended a one-room schoolhouse; and was a star basketball and baseball player. The famous photographer Mr. Kosti Ruohomaa had Lauri's photo in LIFE Magazine, dated February 2, 1948 as one Bobby Lofman's models. Lauri, Jr. was also photographed amongst his classmates within the one-room schoolhouse in the book published as "Night Train at Wiscasset Station". Lauri Jr and Robert moved to Massachusetts where Lauri attended school and worked as a machinist. Lauri served in the U.S. ARMY from 1958-1967 and had tours in Japan and Germany. He had three children, daughter Rosemarie, son Lauri III, and Eric with his first wife, Gail Marie Malone. Lauri Jr moved his family to raise his children to the state with the motto of "The Way Life Should Be". He was employed through the U.S. Government as a Seafood Inspector, later worked at Booth Fisheries in Portsmouth, NH and worked as a Real Estate Broker with Bob Stukas Reality. He then married his current wife of over 45 years, Ms. Gale C. (Johnson) Mondene who shared a life of laughter, outdoor recreation, their many cats and their love Sunny, their Brittany Spaniel. Lauri Jr. enjoyed woodcarving and entering wood carving competitions, winning several blue ribbons for his Loons, amongst many other birds. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He leaves behind his wife, Gale C and 3 children, 4 granddaughters, 5 great grandsons. 3 great granddaughters, brother and 2 nephews all of whom loved him dearly.
