Laurent G. Chretien, died peacefully on December 19, 2012. Laurent was a long-time Westbrook resident. He was born in Westbrook on January 10, 1916, to Joseph and Josephine St. Pierre Chretien. He attended Westbrook Schools. Laurent served in the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) in 1933 in Greenville, Maine. Laurent was a member of Chapter 111, NACCCA. He worked at S.D. Warren and Scott Paper Company for 44 years, retiring in 1978. During WWII, Laurent served in the United States Army in the European Theater from 1943-1945. He also served in the Maine National Guard for 18 years, retiring as a Warrant Officer in 1957. He was a member of the Stephen W. Manchester Post #62 American Legion. Laurent was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church in Westbrook, a member of the Holy Name Society, and Westbrook Senior Citizens. Laurent enjoyed golfing, swimming, bowling and traveling. He was an avid New England sports fan. Laurent was predeceased by his wife of 74 years, Emily Banks Chretien, his mother and father, all his siblings, and his son-in-law, Ronald J. Currier. Laurent will be sadly missed by his family. He is survived by his children, Patricia Chretien Currier of Scarborough, and Larry Chretien and his wife, Shirley, of Gorham; as well as six grand-children and seven great-grand children; a brother-in-law, Richard C. Nelson and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at The Gorham House for their care and compassion during Laurent's stay. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, December 21, from 2-4 p.m., at the Blais and Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church Street, Westbrook. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 22, at 10 a.m., at Saint Anthony's Catholic Church, 268 Brown St., Westbrook. Interment will follow the service at St. Hyacinth Cemetery.
