Obituary

Larry Kingsley Pendleton 73 WINDHAM-- Larry K. Pendleton, 73 died in the comfort of his own home, January 17, 2018. He was born in Calais, Maine on August 20, 1943, the son of Kingsley and Marjorie Pendleton of Deer Island, New Brunswick, Canada. The family moved to Falmouth when Larry was 8. When he was 15, he met his future wife from the summers spent returning to Deer Island. After graduating from Falmouth High School in 1961 he attended Maine Vocational-Technical Institute receiving a diploma in Marine Technology. In 1962 he married Jo-Ann Jenkins of Norwood, PA. They lived briefly in Virginia Beach, VA where he worked for NOAA before settling in Windham where they resided for the past 52 years. Larry worked for Power Products as a diesel mechanic for many years and worked his way up within the company to sales. When he retired in 2006 he was the parts manager of Detroit Diesel Allison. He was fortunate to travel extensively throughout New England and spoke fondly of his contacts in the maritime and forestry industry as a result of being in the diesel trade. He and Jo-Ann raised three daughters. Larry volunteered on the Windham Fire Department for many years. They joined the Friday night bowling league and learned to golf together. They recently enjoyed the warm winters of Mexico and Florida, summers poolside. Larry also enjoyed his time on his fishing trips up into Northern Maine, taking his grandsons for a week at a time and fishing on the various lakes, and staying in a camp owned by a close friend. He enjoyed fishing, canoeing and playing cribbage, but his greatest joy was his 6 grandsons. He and Jo-Ann were their biggest fans attending concerts, ball games, ski races and assisted with an Eagle Scout project but his favorite thing to do was to take the boys back to Deer Island along with their families. He spent many summers there with the kids and enjoyed boating to Pendleton Island, fishing and whale watching. Larry was pre-deceased by his wife Jo-Ann almost 2 years ago and has been living at home in Maine since then along with his own significant illness. His daughter and family moved in with Larry almost 2 years ago, and have been there with him until the end. He is survived by his daughters, Deborah Menezes and her husband George of Bethel, Suzanne Griffin and her husband Jason of Windham, Christine Powell, her partner Steve Gill of Windham; sisters, Leanne Broome and her husband Thomas of Savannah, GA, Loretta Johnston and her husband, Harvey of Chilhowie, VA; brother-in-law Thomas Jenkins and his wife Jane of Manahawkin, NJ, grandchildren Taylor Menezes of Burlington, VT, Mackenzie Menezes and his wife Leah of So. Paris, George Menezes of Bethel, Jack and Owen Griffin of Windham, Ian Powell of Windham, Ted Gill of Portland, Peter Gill of Philadelphia, PA. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at 5pm at the Windham chapel of Dolby, Blais & Segee, 434 River Road, Windham, ME 04062 where a period of visitation will be held at 4pm until the time of service.
