WINDHAM-- The family of Kieli Dixon is heartbroken to share the news that our beautiful girl passed away on Saturday, November 3 surrounded by loved ones. She was diagnosed with stage 4 Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma months after graduating from Windham High School in 2017, and true to her nature, she fought with all she had. Kieli was born on December 28, 1998 in Portland. Her first home was in Windham with her mother, Pam, and her grandparents Sharon (Meme), and Malcolm (Papa) Dixon. Shortly after came her first best friend, a yellow lab puppy named Songo. Kieli was the youngest member of an immediate and extended family who adored her, and as she made her way through the Windham school system she found a great circle of friends who loved her for her kindness above all else. When she walked across the stage to receive her high school diploma she did so as a member of the National Honor Society, a member of the Spanish Honor Society, and Senior Class President. She was also involved in many other clubs and community initiatives. Kieli was outwardly beautiful, but her grace was an enormous heart, her compassion for others, and her love for her family and friends. There's no better example of this than the relationship she shared with her baby brother Jackson, who was born during her sophomore year of high school to Pam and her longtime partner, Tim Bennett. The bond brother and sister shared was rare, despite the age difference. One look at the two of them together was all it took to understand the depth of their love for each other. Kieli was an avid dog lover. After he passed, she would tell stories about her beloved Songo with a twinkle in her eye, and her adopted newfoundland/retriever Chloe brought her peace and happiness as she was battling her disease. In many ways, Kieli's private and public personalities contrasted. She was shy, yet outgoing. She was humble, yet confident, self-conscious, yet stunning. Timid, yet brave. But in all phases of her life, Kieli was a bright light of energy. She radiated positivity. She took time to appreciate things like a sunset over Sebago Lake, or cuddle time with her brother, and her favorite memories took place with her loved ones at the family camp on Sebago. She will be missed dearly by her parents, grandparents, and brother; aunts and uncles Stan and Janet Murphy of Standish, Bill and Beth Shorr of Melbourne, Florida, formerly of Portland, and Diana Curry of Los Angeles, formerly of Windham; dozens of cousins; and countless friends made along her journey. The family would like to send out a special thanks to Sara Casper, Roman Habibzai, Alen Hadziabulic, Kathryn Seymour, Holly Rose, Will Wheaton, Aiden Hatch, Mary Thompson, Lyndsey Arsenault, and so many more friends who were there for Kieli when she needed them most. Also a special thanks to the medical staffs at the Barbara Bush wing and Gibson Unit of Maine Medical Center, as well as the Boston Children's Hospital who cared for Kieli. Please donate to LLS (Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, https://donate.lls.org/lls/donate) in Kieli's honor OR to Kieli's family. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday November 11th 2018 at 1pm at Spring Meadows, 59 Lewiston Rd. Gray, ME 04039. Flowers can be sent directly to Spring Meadows. All are welcome and everyone in attendance will be invited to share stories and memories of Kieli.
