Windham, ME - Kennison "Chummy" Brown passed away peacefully at his home in Windham, Maine December 24, 2024. He was born February 21, 1938 in the small town of Gardiner, Maine to parents Florida and Vernon. Having grown up in a robust family of 14, he was determined early to make his own way. He met Sheila Pride (Brown), the love of his life in Windham Maine. They wed in 1959 and were at each other's side for 65 years. Chummy was a loving husband, caring and proud father of daughters, a grandfather that cherished each of his grandchildren and the memories they made, a beloved uncle to many, and the very best friend that anyone could ask for. He was a man of emotion, celebration or devastation, Chum wore his heart on his sleeve. It's safe to say that upon entry to Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in 1950, his life truly began. The man lived for racing. He ran a wrench or socket better than most, and he knew it; he was a real wizard at the track. Some don't know how he did it, some do, and some never will. He took his turn at driver responsibilities, but found more pride in turning the wrenches and making cars go, so offered his expertise to various drivers who allotted him great success throughout the years. While he traveled to a few area tracks, Beech Ridge would forever be home. He was there in the beginning, and through to the end, until the lights went out for the very last time. His successes weren't measured by the races he won, but affirmation of his greatness was achieved upon induction to the Maine Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2022. His legacy spans across the decades and most will agree, their life was a little better having known him. A private service will be held for family at 130pm January 10th, 2024 at Dolby Blais & Segee in Windham. We encourage all to attend a celebration of life at 4pm at the Windham Veterans Center, 35 Veterans Memorial Drive, Windham Maine. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Maine Vintage Race Car Association, Ken Minot, 17 Molly Point Lane, Georgetown Maine 04548
