Obituary

Windham Kenneth "Ken" Lloyd Winship, 87, died Sunday February 19, 2017 at the Maine Veterans Home. He was born October 10, 1929 in Portland, a son of Harry H. Sr. and Lottie (Leighton) Winship. Kenneth grew up in Windham and attended local schools. He enlisted in the United States Army serving in the 1st Calvary Division, 7th Cav Field Artillery H.Q. from 1947 – 1951, spending two years in Japan during the Japanese Occupation and one year in Korea during the Korean Conflict, from 1950 – 1951. On December 13, 1952 Ken Married Nancy (Hatch) Winship in Berwick. Seven years later he received his GED while working for Shell Oil Co. in Portland. During the next five years Ken attended Northeastern College, Detroit Bible College, and completed a Missionary Internship in preparation for the next four years in the Philippines with the Far Eastern Gospel Crusade. When Ken returned to the States he completed his BA in Psychology at Gordan College and his MA at the University of Maine. He operated a family and Marriage Counseling Business for the next 15 years. During this time, he also built two homes in Scarborough. Ken retired from Resource Conservation Services in 1991, and in 1994 he and Nancy moved to Summerfield, FL where they resided until moving back to Maine in June 2016. In addition to his parents Ken was predeceased by his brothers, Harry H. Winship Jr., Walter Winship, and William Winship. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Nancy (Hatch) Winship; sister Eleanor Hawkes; sister in-law, Drucilla Winship; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends. A memorial service will be held at 1:00PM Saturday February 25, at the Vineyard Church of Greater Portland, 715 Bridgton, Road, Westbrook. In lieu of flowers donations in Ken's memory may be sent to the Maine Veterans Home Activities Fund 290 US-1, Scarborough, ME 04074.
