Obituary

KENNETH E. COLPRITT, WESTBROOK-

Kenneth E. Colpritt, 88, passed away on April 25, 2026 after a brief illness, with his family by his side. He was born in Rockland, Maine, the son of Kenneth E. and Rose (Gresley) Colpritt.

Ken attended Westbrook Schools before serving for 4 years in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and as an Army National Guard reservist. After being honorably discharged he attended and graduated with honors from Lincoln Technical Institute. After apprenticing for plumbing and heating companies in New Jersey, Ken quickly realized his desire to start his own business and to return to Maine. Ken was fortunate to make the transition back to his hometown of Westbrook with his wife and young family. What began as a small independent heating service company quickly grew to include home heating oil delivery and 24-hour service. He proudly serviced his oil customers for many years, many of whom, became close friends. With the impending oil embargo of the 1970s, he decided to sell his oil company. Ken again tapped into his entrepreneurial spirit to begin his next adventure by opening a local variety store. Kens Variety became a popular hometown new jersey-style sub and pizza shop that was run by Ken and his wife Arlene. After these successful business ventures, Ken decided it was time to semi-retire and move to Marco Island, FL after enjoying many years vacationing there with his family. Although Ken and Arlene enjoyed their time on Marco, their love of family time and Maine brought them home.

In addition to Ken’s disciplined work ethic, he was a committed husband, father and grandfather who cherished his time spent with family and his many beloved pets. Whether he was joining in on Disney World vacations, boating on Sebago Lake, teaching himself to play guitar, or sailing Casco Bay, Ken was most happy when surrounded by his family. Ken and Arlene were married for 68 years; however, if asked Ken would fondly include the 3 years of dating and considered the moment he laid eyes on Arlene as the moment they were married. Ken and Arlene loved to watch their grandchildren participate in various athletics through the years as well as dance and piano recitals and never missed an event.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sisters Helen Breese and Joan Lavigne. Surviving in addition to his wife Arlene (O’Donnell) Colpritt, are his daughter Lori Beaulieu and her husband Ron, of Falmouth, Maine; son Ken Colpritt and his wife Gemma, of Salem, NH; five grandchildren, Ashley, Courtney and Mitchell Beaulieu, Johanna (Colpritt) Frawley and her husband Dalton, and Kenny Colpritt and his wife Kathryn; sister Nancy Ferguson and her husband Tom; and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Maine Medical Center for the exceptional care that Ken received. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. A private service will be held for the family.
