Karen Louise Barstow, a longtime resident of Gorham, ME, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2023, after a long battle with dementia. She was born on February 12, 1959, to Jean Barstow and George Kendrick, Jr. Karen is predeceased by her mother, Jean Barstow, and brother, Kenneth Kendrick. She leaves behind many loved ones, including her father George Kendrick, Jr., and wife Naomi; stepfather George Barstow, Jr.; her sisters Darlene Erickson, and Kecia Bickford, and brothers Kurt Kendrick, Kevin Kendrick, and George Barstow III. Karen lives on through her son, Chris Barstow, and daughter in law, Rebecca, granddaughters Alexa and Elizabeth and grandson Jacob; daughter Melissa Laughlin and son in law, Blake; daughter Kayla Norster and son in law, Sean, and granddaughters Josephine and Sadie. Those who knew Karen would know that her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, going to the beach, and listening and dancing to music, especially Bon Jovi or any classic rock. She was always up for a cup of coffee (especially iced) and a good chat with friends, watching movies or playing games like Yahtzee or Scrabble. In her down time, she enjoyed playing solitaire, talking on the phone, finding a good bargain while shopping -- usually spoiling her loved ones (or even her cat) -- and making food for company. While she may not have been great at it, she would always attempt gardening at least once a year, particularly around Memorial Day, to honor those who left before her. She spent years taking care of children in her home, or working in the schools her kids attended, and then worked in various retail roles before her illness took over. It was easy to see that she was happiest being around people, especially those she loved. She will be missed by so many who had the honor to know her, and it is the hope of those that loved her that she may now find peace. A graveside service will be held Sunday May 19, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Highland Cemetery, Church Hill Rd., Buxton, Maine. Memorial arrangements are coordinated by Dolby, Blais & Segee of Windham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sedgewood Commons Activity Fund, 22 Northbrook Dr, Falmouth, ME 04105. Donations may be made "In Memory Of Karen Barstow".
