June Merilyn Smith Westbrook - June Merilyn Smith, 93 affectionately known as Nanny to her great grandchildren and on occasion lovingly known as June Bug passed away Friday September 20, 2024, at Maine Medical Center with her family by her side. She was born August 1, 1931, in Portland, the daughter Margaret Lowell and has resided in the area all of her life. She was employed at Saunders Brothers in Westbrook for many years until her retirement in 1995. June and her husband Bob loved to travel. They spent years travelling to South Carolina to visit their daughter, Nancy Morris and her family. They also traveled to Hawaii to visit their son, Michael, who was stationed there. She also attended her granddaughter's wedding with her son Scott. June was a loving soul with the kindest heart. She enjoyed living life to the fullest. She celebrated many events with her family. She had special memories of grandchildren's weddings, baptisms and parties. There were vacations at Pemaquid Beach, Christmas in Vermont, golf cart rides in South Carolina and special summers at camp. In her younger years she enjoyed gardening with her sister, Millie. They were together for many years, caring for each other after her husband's passing. She lived with her daughter Sally and son-in-law Alex for many years. June was a proverbial fashionista. She loved shopping and was always dressed to the nines while dining out for lunches, dinners and sharing holiday meals together. June adored her family pets, Leo, Tuck Tuck and Harley. In recent years, June spent time at the Barron Center Adult Day Care. She so enjoyed the social time and camaraderie with friends. She loved riding with Portland Wheelers and being able to once again ride a bike, which is how she met her husband, Bob many years ago.
