Westbrook- Julia "Julie" M. Sawyer, 80 of Westbrook passed away at her Westbrook home, after a period of declining health. Julia was a graduate of Deering High School in 1960 & Westbrook Junior College in 1962. In her youth she summered at the family camp in Harpswell, and in later years vacationed in Hawaii for 15 of 20 years. She learned to quilt, basket weaving, and various crafts throughout her life and she loved to read. Julia married W.R. "Tom" or "Randy" Sawyer and moved to Boston. She worked at Boston Children's Hospital and later on in the Portland Adult Education for 20 years. While her sons were growing up the family did annual camping trips on Long Lake, and after the boys graduated they chose to camp at Sheraton, Hyatt, Outrigger, Hilton and more hotels. Julie was the kind of mother America needs more of right now. She loved being a mother, grandmother, and raised her sons to become good men. She is survived by her husband Tom, her sons; David Sawyer of Chester, NH, Granddaughters, Sadie & Reyna; son Jonathan & Amy Sawyer of Portland; Mark & Krista Sawyer of Westbrook, Grandsons, Bailey, Camden, and Granddaughter Delaney; Brothers, Kenneth Martin,Jr., of Auburn, and Thomas and Tracie Martin, of Westbrook; several nieces and nephews. She checked all the boxes, sister, daughter, cousin, aunt, mother, grandmother, and a great friend, plus a boxer named "Chief" who would sit next to her while she was reading. Visiting Hours will be held Monday, March 13 from 4 to 6 PM at Dolby, Blais & Segee Funeral Home, 35 Church St. Westbrook where a mini Celebration of Life for Julie will follow at 6 PM with some speakers from the family.
