Obituary

Joshua A. Roy, cherished father, son, brother, husband, and friend tragically departed this world on April 15, 2024, at the age of 39. While his departure was sudden and unexpected, his impact resonates profoundly with those fortunate to know him. Joshua's sudden passing, a result of a heart attack, has left a void in the lives of those who shared his journey. Known affectionately as Josh, he illuminated the lives of many with his warmth and kindness. From his enduring friendships forged since childhood to the camaraderie among his UMaine Orono Woodsman Teammates and the bonds he cultivated with his colleagues at Scarborough Public Works and the Scarborough Sanitary District, Josh left a mark on all he encountered. Above all, Josh treasured his three beautiful children, Lucien, Keira, and Marcel, whom he shared with his wife, Emily Roy of Gorham. His memory will endure through his children and the countless stories and memories shared by those who held him dear. Joshua was born to Linda (Voisine) Roy and the late George E. Roy of Scarborough. He is survived by his devoted mother, Linda, and his grandmother, Jeannette Voisine of Fort Kent, as well as his siblings: Sherry Roy Blake and partner Jay O'Connor of New Braunfels, TX; Nichole Roy Clark and husband Greg Clark of Biddeford; Michelle Claussen and husband Mark of Waterboro; and Suzette Roy and partner Sean McKenna of Biddeford. Josh took immense joy in his role as an uncle to Brittany, Amanda, Danyelle, MJ, Eve, Lillie, Allie, Amias, Alexander, Arren, Autumn, and Jonathan. Josh's deep love for his family was evident throughout his life, from the cherished camping trips and travels with his parents and siblings during his childhood to the profound bond he shared with his Uncle Dana, whom he held dear as a second father figure who fostered the woodworking skills Josh developed. A man of diverse talents, Josh's connection to the natural world was profound. As a skilled arborist and earth worker, he found solace in nature, often embarking on hiking, and camping adventures with his family. His hands possessed the magic to craft and mend almost anything, earning him a reputation as a gifted carpenter, tinkerer, and handyman. Yet, amidst his many accomplishments, Josh found his greatest fulfillment in being a father to his children. With Joshua's passing, the world has lost a guiding light. Though his physical presence is no longer with us, his spirit will endure through the memories he created and the love he shared. Joshua's legacy will forever be engraved in the hearts of his family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at Flaherty's Farm in Scarborough on Sunday, April 21, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. Mass at Saint Ann's in Gorham will occur the following day on Monday, April 22, at 11:00 AM, followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Saco Bay Trails in Josh's honor. Rest in peace, dear Josh. Your absence is deeply felt, but your memory will forever be cherished, and your spirit will continue to shine brightly in our hearts.
