Obituary

WESTBROOK-- Surrounded by his family, Joseph A. Madore peacefully went home to Jesus on July 18th, 2018 after an extended illness. He devoted his life to caring for his family, friends, co-workers and community. Joseph was born on January 19, 1947 in Portland, Maine to Rudolph "Ted" Madore and Natalie "Jane" Murphy. Joseph grew up in Westbrook and graduated from Westbrook High School in 1966. Following his graduation, he went on to attend the Maine Criminal Justice Academy. He served as an officer of the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department for over thirty years, until his retirement. Joe loved his job as a patrolman, and later as a detective. He always had a special place in his heart for his "Brothers and Sisters in Blue." Known as "Joe" to those closest to him, he was known as a loving husband and father, and a dedicated police officer. He was described by his colleagues as "a gentleman, who was always willing to answer younger officers' questions or help out." His family knew him as a man who would do anything for them, and always encouraged his children to follow their own paths, their own talents. Joe was an ardent fan of sports from his earliest years, as a member of the football team at Westbrook High School, to his ongoing love of the Red Sox and New England Patriots. He also enjoyed music, photography, and spending time with family at gatherings for holidays or family events. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Catherine Rowe; his daughter Julie Soucie and her husband Daniel of North Yarmouth, Rebecca Madore of Westbrook, and their son, Joseph Madore, also of Westbrook. He is also survived by his three sisters; Sharon Farr and her husband Ray, Donna Stearns and her late husband Fred and Cheryl Robichaud and her husband Al. He also had several nieces and nephews that he loved to see and visit with. Joe also leaves behind a special grandson, Wyatt Soucie, who shared his love of baseball. "Papa" loved attending Wyatt's baseball games and all his sports activities. He will be sadly missed. A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 22, 2018 from 4pm to 7pm at the Westbrook Chapel of Dolby Blais & Segee, 35 Church St., Westbrook, ME 04092. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 23 at 10am at St. Anthony of Padua Parish 268 Brown Street, Westbrook. Burial will follow at St. Hyacinth Cemetery Stroudwater Street, Westbrook. The Madore family also wishes to express their gratitude for the services and care provided by Hospice of Southern Maine, especially RN Michelle. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joe's name may be made to: Hospice of Southern Maine, 180 US Route 1 # 1, Scarborough, ME 04074.
