WINDHAM – John Stevens Rollins, 90, of Windham died Thursday, July 27, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Portland on November 5, 1926 a son of the late Walter and Marguerite Rollins. John was a tractor trailer truck driver for 46 years at Maine Freightways, Capital Motors, Spector Freight, and Carolina. He started driving when he was 15 years old and retired in 1988. John and his wife Eleanor of 67 years enjoyed camping with the FCRV, playing cards, woodworking, square dancing and dominos with family and many friends. They spent 25 winters in Mims, Florida. He also collected miniature trailer trucks. John was a Navy World War II Veteran and belonged to American Legion Post 148 in Windham, Teamsters Local 340 and Teamsters Bowling League. In addition to his wife John is survived by his daughters, Jackie Birt and her husband James, and Diane Bell and her husband Clifton. Grandchildren Jennifer Shirley and husband Keith, Kelley Anne Spinney and friend Walter Connolly, John Bell and wife Michelle, Kyle Bell and friend Whitney Lamson. Nicki Phillips, Jeffery Birt, James Birt Jr., Chrissy Herrera and husband Erick. Great Grandchildren Damon Spinney and friend Chelsi Parker, Hannah Shirley and friend Jacob Wisecup, Coleman Shirley, Ivy Shirley, Austin Shirley, Aubrey Bell, Eleanor (Ellie) Bell and Morgan Bell. Great Great Grandchild Carsyn Spinney. As well as many nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by three brothers, Walter (Son), Harry (Frank) and Clifford (Jim) Rollins; four sisters, Mary MacKenzie, Martha (Sis) Daigle, Marion (Till) Flint and Ann Cressey. Visiting Hours will be held from 5:00 – 7:00PM Wednesday August 2, at the Dolby Funeral Chapel 434 River Road, Windham, where a Memorial Service will be held 11:00AM Thursday August 3. Following the service relatives and friends are invited to attend a reception at the Windham Veterans Center, 35 Veterans Memorial Drive, Windham. Burial will be held at Brooklawn Memorial Park at a later date.
