Obituary

Cumberland-                                                 John Allen Hay, 86   John Allen Hay, 86 died January 7, 2017 at his home in Cumberland.  John was born in Portland, on January 19, 1930.  He was the third of four sons of Dr. Walter F.W. and Alice (White) Hay.  John and Constance Emily Adde were married on June 14, 1958.  They made their home in Portland until 1996 when they moved to Cumberland.  John was a graduate of Deering High School, class of 1948, attended Portland Junior College and the University of Miami.  John was in sales for Burroughs Corp. and went on to Casco Bank and Trust where he was Vice President of Computer Services.              In retirement he became a starter/ranger at Val Halla Golf Course for many years, winding it up with being the course "Beer Cart Girl" for Charlie Sparrow.  He loved it all.  John loved his family, friends, skiing, golf, his music and was an avid reader.  He genuinely enjoyed life and all the people who passed through his.  Adversity found John as a young teenager and continued on but John remained ever the optimist.  Everything always "could have been worse".  He was a remarkable man in a class all his own.             John was predeceased by his parents, brothers Walter F.W. Jr, R Channing and H. Graham Hay, in- laws Eric G.A. and Mildred (Robinson) Adde, sister-in-law Barbara (Adde) Mullen Levine and nephew Michael E. Mullen.             He is survived by his wife Connie, son's Stephen A. and Eric W. Hay and his much adored twin granddaughters Everlyn A. and Jocelyn A. Hay.  His nephew's R. Couri, Walter F. W.3rd and Gordon G Hay and niece Suzanne G. Mullen.              At John's request, there will be no funeral.  Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Blais & Hay Funeral Home, Westbrook. The Hay family would like to thank Hospice of Southern Maine for their assistance in him being able to remain at home.  A special thank you to Katy and Cindy for their tenderness and care.              In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, a donation may be made to Prince Memorial Library or a charity of your choice in John's memory.
