John suffered a massive heart attack and was not able to overcome this trauma. He was born in Portland, Maine, November 23, 1962, to Richard Otis Hagar and Margaret Fickett. He was raised in West Cumberland Center with his family and also lived with his surrogate family Pete and Mary Woodbury, Peter Jr., Andrea and Carrie during his teenage years. He is survived by his wife Becky Hawkes Hagar, they have been married for 30 years. John is also survived by his Mother-in-law, June Hawkes of Windham; brother, David and wife Gail, of New Gloucester; sister, Judy, of Cumberland; his dad, Richard and his companion Julie Whitney, of Cumberland; nieces, Tasha and Kimberly Hagar; nephew, Matthew of Cumberland; great niece, Sadie who just turned 13 months old; uncle Richard and aunt Betty Walker of Windham; uncle David and aunt Barbara Hagar, of Dexter; aunt Carolyn and uncle Richard Schmigle in Tulsa, OK, and aunt Bernice Profenno of South Portland; and several cousins around the county. He was predeased by his mother, Margaret Fickett, paternal and maternal grandparents; father-in-law, Richard Hawkes; and brother-in-law, Eugene Hawkes. John worked at Seltzer and Rydholm Pepsi Bottling Company from the day after high school graduation in 1981 and retired after 26 years. He then started his own contractor business and home repair maintenance business and enjoyed building and remodeling for the past 10 years. John has built 3 houses that he had Becky shared over the past 33 years and was very much respected in his field of craftsmanship. John was a Registered Maine Guide and was proud to be part of the heritage of keeping the Maine hunting and recreation alive and well. He enjoyed deer, bird, and moose hunting; John loved spending time on his snowmobile in the winter. His favorite winter activity was being out in the deep woods in Eustis looking for moose sheds. He and Becky enjoyed boating for 13 years and spent a lot of time on Moosehead Lake, Sebago Lake and most enjoyed being out on Casco Bay. John built their dream cabin in Eustis, Maine; they spent many weekends and weeks in the Western Mountains enjoying what was offered for experiences with nature. John started to do mountain hiking and went on several hikes with friends Cindy, Wayne, Julie, Hannah, Ryan, David, Wendy, and Michael every summer. He planned on finishing the 4 thousand foot peaks this year. He had 2 more to go to accomplish that. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle; he and Becky would ride for hours enjoying being with each other. John owned a family hunting camp in Sweden Maine with his dad and that is where he spent many days of happy times with family and friends enjoying the season. The time spent with those friends in Sweden was so important to John. He looked forward to a special hunting week every year. John and Becky have many, many friends and they have loved the children that came into the lives as these friends had families and shared their children with them over the years and now new generations are being born. A very special young lady, Brooklynn Hennigar, has been a very important part of their life since her birth 11 years ago and she and her Bubba had a very special and loving relationship. She loved to be able to ride on his Harley Davidson with him, white water rafting, canoeing and snowmobiling. Our lives will never be the same without John/Bubba. This man had a very positive outlook on life and was a great friend to those that were fortunate enough to be loved by him. A special thank you to many family and friends who have been so supportive; thank you does not say enough. Becky wishes to express love to everyone who has come to her at the most difficult time of her life. A Celebration of Life will be held at 4pm, on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at the North Windham Union Church, Route 302, Windham. Visitation will be from 2pm until the time of the service at the church.
