IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John F.
Emmons
January 14, 1943 – February 27, 2026
John Emmons, age 83, of Gorham, Maine, went to be with the Lord on February 27, 2026.
John was born on January 14, 1943, in Adrian, Michigan, the son of the late Carl and Pearl (Smith) Emmons. He graduated from Sand Creek High School in 1961 and went on to earn an accounting degree from Stautzenberger College in Toledo, Ohio, in 1965.
On October 4, 1963, John married the love of his life, Cheri Kay Sullins, in Weston, Michigan. Together they shared more than 63 years of marriage, building a life rooted in faith, family, and friendship.
John spent his professional career with Taylor Freezer of Michigan, where he served for 28 years, including 15 years as a partner. He was known for his strong work ethic, integrity, and dedication.
A man of deep faith, John was an active member of Galilee Baptist Church in Gorham, Maine. In retirement, he continued to serve others by volunteering with Meals on Wheels and the Gorham House Memory Care. He also served in several board member roles, including Treasurer, offering his time and talents generously. John was a loyal Detroit Lions and Tigers fan, enjoyed golf, and above all else was a proud and loving grandfather. His greatest joy came from time spent with his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.
John was a devoted family man who cherished his loved ones. He is survived by his wife, Cheri Emmons; his children, Warren (Sarah) Emmons of Seattle, Washington, Kathy (Adam) Griffiths of Scarborough, Maine, and Aaron Emmons of Monroe, Washington; and his seven grandchildren, Isabella (Shaine) Goodwin, Aidan Emmons, Bennett Fogg, John (Hailey) Emmons, Alden Griffiths, Harrison Griffiths, and Eva Babler. He was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Adeline and Emery Goodwin.
He is also survived by his siblings, Mary Helen Love, Janet Bennett, and Norman Emmons. John was predeceased by his brothers, Richard and Donald Emmons.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Avita of Stroudwater and Compassus Hospice for their compassionate care and kindness.
John will be remembered for his quiet strength, servant’s heart, unwavering faith, and deep love for his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A spring service will take place in Gorham, Maine. A summer celebration of life is planned in Michigan; details to follow.
