Born during a thunderstorm on June 20, 1969 in Boothbay Harbor, ME to Jonice (Blagdon) and William Phinney, Jodi regaled her parents with her deep passion for life and unyielding curiosity from the start . A few years later, they welcomed Jodi's best friend and lifelong playmate, her sister, Tasha. Jodi and Tasha spent their youth playing beside the ocean in Arrowsic, Maine. Jodi attended Waynefleet School during her elementary years, and graduated from Wiscasset High School in 1987. As an adult, with few stops along the way, Jodi found and followed her passion, becoming a certified Doula. She started with Birth Roots in Portland, eventually becoming a partner in that practice, then in 2009, Jodi branched out on her own, starting A Doula for ME (which in 2015 became Maine Doulas). As a Doula, Jodi touched thousands of lives, and there are countless stories of the positive and lasting impact she made to her families. Jodi loved to travel and she explored wherever she could: Japan, France, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, and she roamed extensively in the USA. Like her love of adventure, Jodi's capacity for giving was boundless. Her ability to provide comfort and light knew no end. On September 16, 2023, on the tail end of a hurricane, the sun shone through the parting clouds, and Jodi left this world after a noble fight with the ugly monster ALS. She faced the beast with her usual grace, courage, and dignity. Jodi was predeceased by her father, Bill Phinney. She leaves behind her Mother, Jonice Oliver, her sister, Tasha Phinney, a significant extended family, countless friends, and the families she served as a Doula. She loved and was loved deeply, and is sorely missed by all whose lives she touched.
