Windham, ME - Joanne Elizabeth Mattiace, 72, of Windham, Maine, died Sunday morning December 24th, 2023 at her home after a short illness. Her loving wife Margaret (Maggie) Terry was by her side. Joanne was born March 31st , 1951, in Providence, RI. She was one of five children of her predeceased parents, Anthony and Anna (Persechino) Mattiace. Her surviving siblings are Joyce Davis (Middleburg. FL),Kathleen Kriskewic (Morrisville, PA), Frank Mattiace (Orange Park, FL), and Angela Kearsch (Ormond Beach, FL) Joanne graduated from Warwick Veterans Memorial High School, Warwick, RI, and attended University of Rhode Island and Boston College Law School. Joanne spent her entire career as a Product Safety Attorney. She practiced in many locations including Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia. Joanne loved her siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous nieces and nephews. She especially loved children which led Joanne and Maggie to became adoptive parents in 2008 of Chase Hutchinson. Chase also has 3 other siblings who over the past 15 years have been blended in as part of Joanne and Maggie's family too. The family expanded with Chase's sister Jessica, and two brothers, Zach and Brett and wife Amanda, who now have their own children, making Joanne and Maggie grandparents. They have 5 grandchildren to date starting with Breyhlan, Addie, Beau, Landon and most recent addition of Chase and Emily's daughter Elsie Hutchinson. Joanne touched the lives of many with her product safety work, donations to women's shelters, juvenile detention centers and local churches. Her favorite holiday was Christmas in which she always had 3 - 5 Christmas trees, a collection of nutcrackers and many collectable glass ornaments. She was one of Santa's elves in the Windemere neighborhood where Maggie and Joanne resided. She collected letters in her Santa mailbox and responded to every child with a letter and gift. Last count was close to 40 children! Joanne loved her family vacations. She often vacationed with her siblings, children, nieces, nephews and friends. They enjoyed Oliva Cruises," R family Vacations", and traveled to far away locations such as Tahiti, Alaska and Mexico. Her love of animals was also evident in the many cats and dogs that shared their home. Friends and Family are invited to a celebration of her life to be held on Saturday January 6th at 11:00am. The service will be held at Windham Hill United Church of Christ located at 140 Windham Center Rd, Windham, ME.
