Gorham- Joan L. (Riley) Elwell, 78, of Gorham passed away on November 6, 2018 at the Springbrook Center in Westbrook. The daughter of Martin and Mildred (Winter) Riley, she was born on February 24,1940 in Windham. She attended school in Gorham. On May 8, 1963 she married Bob Elwell of Westbrook. They settled in Westbrook to raise their three children. Joan drove school buses for Westbrook and Windham for 18 years. She loved all the children she carried on her buses. For the last 32 years Joan and Bob lived in Patio Park in Gorham. Joan loved to dance at Highland Grove where she and Bob first met. Joan enjoyed painting, yard sales, and playing beano. Joan laughed easy. Joan and Bob truly loved each other and went everywhere together. She was predeceased by her sisters Ellen, Diddy and Donna, and her brothers Philip, Raymond, Bud and Ronald. Joan is survived by her husband Bob of 55 years, her children Tammy Johnson of Gorham, Susan Collins of Virginia, and Robbie Elwell Jr. and his wife Mary of Standish, 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Joan's family wishes to thank the nurses, Randy, Ellen, Kim & Jasmine and the staff on the 3rd floor of Compassus Hospice Care for the loving care that they gave to her. Joan's desire was that services be private for her family. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Westbrook. Arrangements are under the care of the Windham Chapel of Dolby, Blais & Segee.
