Joan Elizabeth Gordon, 95, passed away peacefully at home on September 8, 2025. Joan was born on a Saturday night at home on April 12, 1930 in Camden, the daughter of the late Lewis M. and Mary (MacDonald) Eupea. Joan graduated from Camden High School, Class of 1948. She then attended Gorham State Teacher's College where she earned a degree in teaching and met and married her husband, William (Bill) Joseph Gordon. They celebrated 50 years of marriage before he passed away in 2001. After college, Joan and Bill moved to Boothbay and then Harwinton, CT where Joan began teaching elementary school while they raised their family. After 7 years, they returned to Gorham where they lived on a small farm growing much of their own food. Joan continued to teach elementary school and earned her Masters degree in Early Education. She taught in East Sebago and then, for many years, taught mostly kindergarten in Baldwin and in Cornish. After her husband became ill, Joan took care of him for 21 years while working part time as a reference librarian at Baxter Memorial Library, retiring at the age of 86. Joan loved to read and enjoyed history. Summer vacations usually involved camping and a historical aspect, such as following Bendict Arnold's trail through Maine and into Canada and crossing the Rockies along the Lewis and Clark Trail, stopping and reading every historical marker along the way. She also enjoyed genealogy and through it uncovered several major family secrets over the years. In addition to her parents and husband, Joan was predeceased by her two sons, William (Billy) Joseph Gordon Jr. and Dana Alan Gordon. Joan is survived by her daughter, Susan Hynes; granddaughters Melissa Hynes and Andrea Chiasson; grandson Dana Gordon Jr; and several great grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to a graveside service on September 20 at 11:00 AM at North Street Cemetery in Gorham. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Greater Portland Animal Refuge League, 217 Landing Road, Westbrook ME 04092
