Obituary

Joan Greenlaw Clark, 87 Gorham – Joan Greenlaw Clark, 87, died on July 20, 2016, at a hospital in Portland. She was born in Windham, on January 24, 1929, the daughter of Harold and Winnifred (Hall) Greenlaw. Joan grew up in Windham and was a graduate of Windham High School, class of 1947. After she completed school, she married Roy H. Clark, and together they raised their four children on the family farm in Gorham. Joan was a hard working wife of a dairy farmer, often helping out bailing hay and handling other chores that needed to be completed. She kept a garden religiously, always giving away what she had grown to family, friends, and any visitors. Joan was a proud grandmother and great grandmother, passing on her tips for gardening and cooking to the future generations. She enjoyed the large family gatherings that came with the holidays, sometimes feeding over 30 people at Thanksgiving. While she could cook just about anything, she was famous for her pineapple chiffon pie that she would make for bean suppers. Joan also loved her animals, which included many dogs, cats, turkeys, geese, and guinea hens. She is survived by her son, Ralph Clark of Gorham; daughters, Linda Daley of Westbrook, Betty-Jo Sands and husband David of Gorham, and Holly Smith and husband David of Gorham; 11 grandchildren, Kenny and Meghan, Terry, Michelle and AJ, Mark, Ben and Teresa, Sarah and Joshua, Hannah and Whitley, Chris and Jaime, Marie, Tim, and Danny; 10 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Joan is predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Roy, in 2002; son-in-law Mike and daughter-in-law Linda; three brothers, and a sister. Visitation will be from 6-8pm on Monday, July 25, at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Rd., Windham. A funeral service will be celebrated at 1pm on Tuesday, July 26, at the chapel. Memorial donations in Joan's honor may be made to the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland, PO Box, 339, Westbrook, ME 04098; or to any charity benefiting animals.
