Jennie A. MacDonald-- Brunswick—Jennie A. MacDonald, of Coastal Shores died Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Mid Coast Hospital. She was born on July 11, 1934, a daughter of Harold and Beryl Malier Varney. Educated in the Windham schools she was a 1952 graduate of Windham High School. Jennie's work history included Bennett's Nursing Home, the Portland Jetport, Point Sebago but the majority of her work life consisted of 17 years as head cook for the Windham school department. Jennie was an excellent athlete and was the foul shooting champion at Windham High School. She also enjoyed spending summer at her camp at Little Duck Pond. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, quilting and sewing as well as being an excellent cook. She won lots of blue ribbons at the Cumberland and Fryeburg fairs for her quilts and custom design sweaters. She made friends easily and was lovingly known as "hugger". Her most cherished asset was her family. Jennie was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion in Casco. She married Philip MacDonald in 1954 and he passed away in 1995. Besides her husband she was predeceased by a sister, Lucy McCabe and a special friend, Paul Blake. Survivors include her daughters, Marcia Hansen and Butch Tupper, Joyce and Michael Sherburne, Debra and Bobby Penney, and Donna and Artie Thorpe, sister, Julia and Al Cheney, brother-in-law, Ralph MacDonald, grandchildren, Felicia and Christopher Hansen, Matthew and Bradley Sherburne and Sarah and Bobby Penney and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, July 2 from 5-7 p.m. at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road, Windham. A funeral service will be held at the chapel on Sunday, July 3 at 1 p.m. with burial to follow in Smith Cemetery, Windham. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jennie's memory may be made to Coastal Humane Society, 190 Pleasant Street, Brunswick, ME 04011 or to Veteran Center, 35 Veteran's Way, Windham, ME 04062.
