Gorham, Maine - Jeannette Belle (Sabo) Vassar, 86, passed away Friday September 22, 2017 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice Souse surrounded by her family. Jeannette was born in Painesville, Ohio on March 3, 1931 to Hilda (Ranta) and Michael Sabo. She grew up in Crystal Falls, MI where after graduating high school, she became the Registrar of Probate. In 1955 Jeannette and Herbert Vassar were married and moved to McAllen, TX where their two daughters, Valerie and Dianne were born. The family moved to Hudson, MA where Jeannette and Herbert lived for 53 years. The couple moved to Gorham in 2015 to live with their daughters. Jeannette had a great appreciation of the arts as she loved to sing, play piano, paint and take photos. She held several executive assistant positions throughout her career, her favorite being her last job as Polaroid, in Waltham, MA. Jeannette is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved brother Joseph David Sabo, her aunt Alma Van Kampen, and her nephew, David "Mikey" Steven Sabo. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Herb; her daughters, Valerie and Dianne; her sister Marcia Lehto; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of Jeannette's life will be held in the Spring of 2018. She was laid to rest Wednesday September 27, 2017 at Hillside Cemetery, Gorham.
