Jean H. Staples, 79, of Standish, passed away on September 22, 2022 at Seaside Healthcare in Portland. She was born in Westbrook on January 10, 1943, daughter of the late Charles Byron Sr. and Lydia Pearl (Titcomb) Hannaford. Jean graduated from Gorham High School then went on to study nursing at Worcester City Hospital, getting her RN degree in 1964. She worked as an RN in Worcester City Hospital, before returning to Gorham to care for her dying father. Later, once her children were a little older, she worked as a bookkeeper for the family plumbing business in Gorham, and then became the owner of a convenience store and redemption center. Jean was known for her door always being open to everyone, welcoming all together around the table for conversation and a cup of coffee. Over her many years in Standish, Jean enjoyed numerous hobbies including crocheting and reading. She was an avid gardener, planting and tending her large vegetable garden and multiple flower gardens surrounding her home. She also liked to spend her time strawberry and blueberry picking when they were in season. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and treating all to a dinner out. Jean is survived by her children; sons Raymond Staples Jr. (Pamela Kelley Staples) and Richard Alan Staples (Gretchen Foster Staples), and daughter Elizabeth Brown-Malia (Peter Malia), brother Robert Leroy Hannaford (Janice Dudley Hannaford), 13 grandchildren; Raymond Joseph Staples, Renae Nicole Staples, Nicholas Patrick Staples, Liam Patrick Kelley, Lennon Sage Kelley, Jacob William Staples, Broderick Keith Staples, Aiden Michael Staples, Claira Marie Staples, Kevin Peter Brown, Caroline Northrop, John Malia, Elizabeth Malia, as well as great-grandchild Summit Mae Brown. Aside from her parents, she was predeceased by her son Brian Keith Staples, husband Raymond Staples Sr., and brother Charles Byron Hannaford III. An hour of visitation will be held on Monday, October 17, 2022 from 10AM to 11AM with a funeral service beginning at 11AM, at Dolby Blais & Segee, 76 State Street, Gorham, ME 04038. Burial will follow in Dow's Corner Cemetery, Standish. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the Brian K. Staples scholarship fund at Bonny Eagle High School.
