Westbrook, Jean Innis Jordan, 97, died 8/23/2023 at St Andre Health Care in Biddeford with loved ones by her side. Jean was born 7/15/1926 at the Westbrook Hospital, the third child of John D Leavitt and Celeta J (Innis). As a young girl she helped serve her Dad's homemade ice cream in the family's store on Main St. Raymond Maine. In recent years trips for ice cream to Beal's and Smiling Hill Farm remained a special treat. Jean graduated from Fryeburg Academy in 1943, and from Bates College in 1948 with a BS degree. During her school years she played basketball and skied. While at Bates Jean met Calvin Jordan. They later married and had two daughters Deborah and Diana. They moved to Westbrook in 1956. Being an avid reader Jean went on to get her Master's degree in Library Science at the University of Southern Maine. She always worried before tests and always got A's! She started her career as a librarian at Westbrook Jr High School and moved on to become the librarian at Wentworth Middle School in Scarborough. Jean and Cal belonged to the Westbrook Congregational Church. The social life of the church and the friends they made were important, they were members of the Couples Club, Jean worked on bean "suppas' and was a Brownie Troop leader. Summer camping trips were a tradition that continued with her grandchildren. Jean loved being outdoors whether she was mowing the lawn, working in her vegetable garden or taking a bunch of high school kids skiing. She would often open up the gym at Wentworth Middle School for her grandchildren to play basketball. Jean loved animals and for most of her life she had one or two cats. In retirement she enjoyed traveling with her sister Corinne. Jean was always there for others with a helping hand and a smile. Jean is predeceased by her parents John and Celeta Leavitt, her husband Calvin W Jordan and her two sisters Ethel (Haskell) and Corinne (Mann). She is survived by her daughter Deborah Richio and husband Stephen Richio; daughter Diana Jordan; grandson Gianni Richio and his wife Laura; granddaughter Jamey Richio and her husband Jeff Skaggs; granddaughter Stephanie Richio; grandson Nicholas Richio; great grandchildren: Luca and Nicola Richio, Braeden, Rianna and Jordan Skaggs and two granddogs Moxie and Lumi.
