Westbrook – Jean Irene Cushing, 68, died on January 23, 2016, at Maine Medical Center in Portland. She was born in Eastport, on October 4, 1947, the daughter of George and Hazel Townsend. Jean graduated from Shead Memorial High School in 1965. In high school, Jean was a majorette and it was also there that she met her husband, Michael Cushing. They were married on June 8, 1968 and together they raised their two sons. In the times when she wasn't caring for her home and her children, Jean enjoyed knitting and sewing and making crafts. She loved to play cards, work on crossword puzzles and play the organ. She also loved spending time chatting with friends and family. And loved the times that she got to share with her four granddaughters. Her most cherished moments were those spent with her parents and sisters growing up in Eastport and raising a family with Michael in Westbrook. Jean is survived by her sons, Michael Cushing, Jr. and wife Michele of Gorham, and Stephen Cushing of Westbrook; granddaughters, Meghan, Morgan, Courtney, and Kaitlyn Cushing; sisters, Mary Bishop and husband Shirl of Windham, and Helen Galipeau and husband Pete of Ocala, FL; her sister and brother-in-laws, Martha and Red McIntyre, Mack and Norma Cushing, Marilyn and Michael Whelpley, Michele and Richard Critchley, Marsha and Kenneth Morse, Martin and Maureen Cushing; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Jean is predeceased by her husband Michael, Sr. who died on Sept. 3, 2015. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland.
