Obituary

Cumberland – Jean B. Crawford went home to be with the Lord on August 20, 2018. Jean was born in Cumberland, Maine on October 23, 1928. She attended Cumberland schools and graduated Valedictorian from Greely Institute. She graduated with honors from the University of Maine, Orono earning a BA in English. She taught in Bridgeton High School for one year and later was a substitute teacher in New Gloucester, Falmouth and Cumberland school systems. She was hired as a seventh grade English teacher at Falmouth Junior High School where she taught of twelve years. Most of her former students remember her for her unique approach teaching The Hobbit. After leaving Falmouth Schools, she taught for a brief period of time at the Windham Christian Academy. She completed her Master's Degree in Counseling from University of Southern Maine and earned credits toward a Ph.D. Daughter of Guy E. and Elsie Burnell, she will be greatly missed by her husband of 67 years, Clayton (Stretch) Crawford; her children: Daniel (wife, Alice), of Auburn; Kimberly C. Waite, of Cumberland. Her grandchildren: Benjamin C. Waite (wife, Erin), Jonathan Waite, Garrett Crawford, Connor Crawford, Gavin Crawford, Andreas Crawford (Onni) and Meredith Crawford Stevens, husband, (Shane). Her great grandchildren: Mary, Audrey and Myles Waite. She will be sorely missed by her two sisters: Marjorie (Burnell) Eames (husband Arnold, "Chuck"); Barbara (Burnell) Thompson of Portland and brother Donald Burnell, (wife, Janice (Grass) of South Portland. She was pre-deceased her brother, David Burnell (wife, Debbie) of North Yarmouth. Her many nieces and nephew will be missing her as well. Her gift of spreading love and kindness to the lives of the many people she touched will leave a big hole in all of our hearts. God has blessed us all because she lived and will continue to live on in our hearts. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Windham Assembly of God Church, 1051 Roosevelt Trail, North Windham, ME, at 3:00 pm, Friday, August 24, 2018. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Windham Christian Academy, 1051 Roosevelt Trail, North Windham, ME 04062 Our heartfelt appreciation and love goes to the staff at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.
