Jared Malier

Jared Malier, 23 of Windham, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 16th. Jared struggled with so much pain in his heart for many years and unfortunately lost his battle with this horrible demon. Even at the height of his darkest days, he would always show kindness and do anything for anyone. He never wanted to burden others with his struggles, but his family knew how difficult each day could be. Jared is the beloved son of Jeff and Laura (Gaudet) Malier and also leaves behind a brother Jesse who he was so proud of. Jared and Jesse had a special bond that will never be broken. Jared made some mistakes in his life that he always regretted and he did all he could to ensure that his brother didn’t make those same mistakes. If love could have saved him, he would have lived eternally. Jared graduated from Windham High School in 2011. Jared was a talented athlete whose sport of choice was wrestling and he had amazing natural talent. Jared never gave up and was always a great supporter of his teammates and his brother. Mom is going to lovingly miss being asked “do you need me to give you the head and arm (wrestling move) ‘Laura’?” This was always followed by a loving hug that will never be replaced. He had a love of all sports – specifically “his” Minnesota Vikings which he loved to watch every weekend with his dad. He also had a great love of the outdoors and loved to hunt and fish at every opportunity. One of his favorite places to go was Jackman, ME. We spent a lot of time there as a family and he also did alone with friends. This was where he found his greatest sense of peace. Jared was most recently employed by Moody’s Collison Center in Portland where he was excited to start learning more about doing body work. Jared was loved by many, but sadly didn’t know how much love there was for him. We are forever grateful for the love and support of his friends and coaches over the years. They all played an instrumental role in who he was as a person. We are hopeful that Jared’s childhood friends will continue to stay in touch and share their lives with us. We initially felt that we needed to have a private service, but through the love and support of his friends, we quickly realized how important having them all around us will help us through these darkest days. Jared was predeceased by his loving grandparents John and Jean Malier and his cousin Mollie Gaudet. He is survived by his mother and father Laura and Jeff, and his beloved brother Jesse and very special dog Tyson who gave him unconditional love. He is also survived by his grandparents Arnold and Donna Gaudet of Westbrook, aunts and uncles Jason and Beth Gaudet and cousins Maggie and Maeve of Windham, Heather Gaudet and Bob Gaudet both of Westbrook, John and Tammy Malier of Raymond, Joy Malier and cousins Damian and Mackenzie Thorne of Westbrook. Many heartfelt thanks to the Windham Police Department and Rescue and to one special Gorham police officer who pulled up next to us on our way to MMC to offer his prayers and stop traffic to allow us to get through the intersection. Also special thanks to the trauma staff at Maine Medical Center and TIP for your compassion, support and dignity given to our beautiful son. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday.
