Janice E. Slattery, 83, of West Minot, Maine passed away peacefully Sunday, March 19, 2023 at Schooner Estate Memory Care after a long illness. Janice, the youngest of eight children was born on October 24, 1939 to Kenneth and Minola Millett. She was raised in Norway, Maine and graduated from Norway High School. On June 14, 1958, Janice married William J. Slattery after meeting one another at a local dance. Janice and Bill danced through life together for more than sixty years. Early on in her working life, Janice worked for the Burnham and Morrill CO. Janice, along with Bill, went on to own The Village Trading Post with Larry and Carolyn Slattery for many years until her son Wayne bought the store in 1978. Janice continued to work alongside Wayne and was the Postmaster of West Minot for 25 years, a job she enjoyed and allowed her to help care for her beloved grandsons. Janice's love and work ethic served her and her family well. Beyond work and family, Janice was an avid gardener, bird watcher and fabulous baker. She enjoyed her beautiful home and caring for her many flower gardens and manicured window boxes. Janice loved the coast and shared many summer days with Bill at their cottage in Harpswell. Janice and Bill created many fond memories while enjoying fishing trips at their camp on Moosehead Lake. Janice especially enjoyed a good shopping trip with her friend Sadie Sturtevant and mother-in-law Doris Slattery. Janice and Bill shared a special longtime friendship with Janet and Rodney Bernier of Hebron, regularly enjoying vacations and trips to grandkids ballgames together. In addition to her parents and siblings, she was predeceased by her husband, William and her son, Thomas. Janice is survived by her; son Wayne and wife Joni, daughter in-law Audrey; grandsons John and wife Heather, Brandon and wife Gina, Matthew, Jacob and wife Vanessa, Michael and wife Shannon; granddaughters Katie Johnson, Heather and husband Jeffery Leonardo; great grandchildren Emalyn, William, Harrison, Cavan, Miles, Matthew, Claire, Chase and Isabelle. Services will be held at the West Minot Union Church on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at 1:00p.m. with a reception to follow at the West Minot Grange Hall. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the West Minot Union Church, as neighbors to the church Janice and Bill cared for the grounds and window boxes for many years. The family would also like to thank the wonderful staff at Schooner Memory Care for their care of Janice in the last years of her life.
