Obituary

Janet Lucia (Ingraham) Cargill, 83, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 17, 2013.  Janet was born on July 3, 1929 in Portland Me., daughter of Henry and Gertrude Ingraham. Janet graduated from Westbrook High School in 1947.  She served proudly as one of the first WAFs (Women in the Air Force), where she met and fell in love with her photography instructor, Delmer M. Cargill.  After their military service, she became an invaluable partner to Del in their photography business.  For years, they especially enjoyed capturing memories for others through weddings, family portraits and for the parents of so many dance recital students in the Greater Portland area. Janet was an active member of the Westbrook Republican Party and, as a Veteran, the local American Legion Post for many years.  She took enjoyment in planning her Westbrook High School class reunions, was actively involved as Vice President of the Larrabee Village Resident Council and enjoyed many trips with the Westbrook Senior Citizens.  She also continued her interests in photography through her membership in Maine Photography Meet-Up.  She was an avid computer enthusiast, not a novice, but a self-taught expert since the early days of personal computers.  She learned, utilized and shared today's technology with others,  maintained many long-lasting friendships though her social media network and kept her extended family in touch through a personal "family website" which she helped develop. Janet is predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Delmer, and her brothers Carl, William, and Henry Ingraham.  Her survivors include her brother, James Ingraham of Fort Myers, Fl., son Ronald Cargill of St. Johnsbury, Vt., daughter Kathryn Feldman and husband Larry of Gorham, Me., daughter JoAnne LaBrecque and husband Ronald, son Richard and wife Joanne, of Viera, Fl., eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Janet's family will receive friends, Wednesday, April 24th from 5 to 8 pm at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church Street, Westbrook, Me. where funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 25th at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, or to the charity of your choice.
