Obituary

Windham-- Jane W. Magnus, formerly of College Park, Lewisburg, died recently after a long illness in the home of her daughter, Erica W. Magnus and Erica's partner, Jane Margesson. She was 93. Jane was born in Lynchburg, VA on April 5, 1923. Her remarkable accomplishments include graduating from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts with classmate Grace Kelly, and receiving a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. She went on to become a model in Paris and New York and also appeared in several feature films. Jane was also a veteran of the Coast Guard and it was during her time of service that she met her husband, John Magnus, a gifted singer and entertainer. She and John eventually settled in Lewisburg to raise their only daughter, Erica, when John joined the Music Department faculty at Susquehanna University. Their favorite vacation spot was Cape Cod, Massachusetts and the family bought a vacation home there in 2000. Jane's background in theatre and her love of the arts resulted in her developing, managing and expanding a highly successful, grant-funded arts program for children through the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit for over 30 years. Her programs touched the lives of thousands of children, many of whom continued to write to her long after she retired in the early 1990's. Jane and John moved to New Jersey and later to Maine to be with their daughter and daughter-in-law. John died in 2012. Jane lived with Erica and Jane in the apartment she loved which had been built especially for her on the first floor of their Maine home. She is celebrated and missed every day. Services for Jane are private.
