Windham, ME - Jane A. Brown, 90 of Windham passed away peacefully Saturday May 4, 2024 in Gorham at the Inn at Village Square. She was born May 16, 1933 in Rochester, New Hampshire the daughter of Harry W. and Leah F. (Wescott) Grierson. Jane graduated from Windham High School. In 1943, she married Alton Varney and had 2 children, Mike Varney and Lisa (Varney) Jackson both of Windham Maine. With the help of many family members, Jane and Alton built their own home in Windham where my mother proudly lived for 52 years. For more that 28 years, Jane had worked for Shaw's Supermarkets as cashier and front-end manager. Jane loved vegetable and flower gardening. She especially loved to grow giant sunflowers. When the children were little she enjoyed camping as a family. In her later years she traveled with her daughter to many countries including Spain, France, Aruba, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Jane also had a great love of cats and owned many in her lifetime. Her last cat was named "Kitchie" who weighs more than 20 pounds and lives with her granddaughter. Despite her disabilities and vision loss, she was always full of life and wore a smile on her face. She loved to go shopping, attend yard sales, and spend as much as 2 hours at Walmart (she LOVED "WallyWorld"). She would be the first to dance at parties, and always show up with holiday clothing. She was often the "life of the party". She was a long-time member of the North Windham Union Church. In church, she assisted with church functions, was a member of the Ladies Guild (scholarship committee), the women's garden club, and assisted at the thrift shop. Members of family include her daughter Lisa G Jackson and her husband Stephen A Wickett of Windham; her granddaughter Sarah Jane Jackson, her fiancé Jason L Medina, and her great grandchildren, Aiden Hall (14) and Isabel Bates (7) all from Windham. She was very proud of her daughter and granddaughter for both becoming Registered Nurses. Jane had many close friends over the years, some of which she spoke to daily for hours on end! She was predeceased by her husband Ralph Brown of Presque Isle and by her son Michael A Varney of Windham who passed away in 2003. The family would like to thank the staff at the Inn at Village Square for their great care of Jane over the past few years. She was very well liked by the staff and residents at the Inn. She was the "life" of the whole place. A funeral service will be held at North Windham Union Church at 723 Roosevelt Trail at 10:00am on Wednesday, May 15th 2024.
