James Kenneth "Jim" Swett, 78, Yarmouth James Kenneth "Jim" Swett of Yarmouth passed away peacefully on April 12, 2017 at the Gosnell Hospice House surrounded by his loving family and friends after a long battle with heart disease. Jim was born November 8th, 1938 in Westbrook, ME, the youngest son of Robert and Leona Richard Swett. He attended Westbrook schools and graduated in 1957. He was the president of his class, voted most popular by his classmates, and participated in many sports. During his senior year, he met the love of his life, Grace L. Beaudoin. They were married in 1961 while Jim was attending the University of Maine at Orono. He graduated in 1963 with a BS in mechanical engineering. His entire professional career was spent with the Black Clawson Co. as a sales engineer. He started his career in Ohio and then happily returned home to Maine to raise his five daughters. Though increasingly outnumbered, Jim thoroughly enjoyed being surrounded by "his girls" except perhaps when waiting in line for the bathroom. Jim had a passion for the outdoors whether it be fishing on Casco Bay, water skiing on Sebago Lake, golfing, skiing, boating, or biking, and was happiest sharing these loves in the company of family and friends. As president of his class, Jim made time to keep in touch with his many friends. He organized class reunions and always looked forward to sharing stories about the good ole days. With his daughters grown, Jim enjoyed traveling with his wife and good friends or spending time on the lake. Some of his favorite trips were exploring Alaska, hanging out in the pubs in Ireland, attending Easter Mass in Rome, going to the Olympics in Atlanta, and yearly ski trips with his former co-workers. His proudest accomplishment has always been his wonderfully close family. He took great delight in bringing family and friends together for any occasion, welcoming everyone to his home at the lake, taking friends out for a sunset boat ride on the Lady Grace, or sharing a glass of wine with neighbors on a summer evening. He always made time for extended family as well, traveling to weddings, graduations and family reunions. He was predeceased by his parents, his beloved wife Grace, and his four brothers, Dr. Alfred Swett, Robert Swett, John Swett, and Richard Swett. He is survived by his five loving daughters and wonderful sons-in-law, eleven beautiful granddaughters, and three very special great grandsons: Terri and husband Marty McDonough and daughters Danielle, Alyson and Meghan of Brunswick; Robyn and husband Kevin Call of Windham; Missy and husband Shawn Grant and daughters Erica and Taylor of Waterboro; Patti and husband John Thomes and daughters Ashley, Alexis and Melissa of Windham; Pam and husband David Black and daughters Grace, Anna and Julia of Scarborough; 3 great grandsons, Baylee, Grady and Finley, and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff at Bay Square for making him feel at home for the past few years, and the many wonderful people at Gosnell House for their loving care. Visiting hours will be held Monday, April 17th from 4 PM – 7 PM at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook, ME.
