Obituary

James Bryant Quimby (Jim), 78, of Windham, passed away unexpectedly at his home—his sanctuary—on June 27, 2025. Born on April 3, 1947, in Westbrook, Maine, Jim was the beloved son of Barbra Secord and Ivan Quimby. He attended Windham schools, where he met the love of his life, Judy, in the 5th grade. Jim was always elated to share the story of how their lifelong love began. He graduated from Windham High School in 1966, and shortly after, he and Judy married and began building their family. Jim went on to study electrical work at CMVTI. He began his career as an apprentice at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and later spent many years as an electrician at S.D. Warren. After retiring, Jim and Judy ran Thayer's Store together with their family for 32 years, creating cherished memories with one another and the greater Windham community. Jim had a deep love for the outdoors and life's simple pleasures. He enjoyed trapping, woodworking, fishing, photography, reading, and cheering on the Boston Celtics. He cherished trips to Moosehead Lake and exploring new corners of Maine with Judy, but his favorite place of all was his home by the river—relaxing, gardening, and surrounded by nature. Jim was a curious, kind, and grounded man, always quick to make someone smile or laugh. His greatest joy came from time spent with family. Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Judy Quimby; his children, Jennifer Nichols and her husband David, Jamie Quimby and his girlfriend Lorenda, and Jocelyn Quimby; and his beloved grandchildren, Stephanie and Timothy Nichols. He also leaves behind his sister, Janice Beatty; as well as many cherished sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was predeceased by his mother, Barbra Secord; his father, Ivan Quimby; his brother, Steve Quimby; several step-siblings; and other dear family members. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, July 3, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Dolby, Blais & Segee Funeral Home in Windham, with a funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. A private graveside service will be held for family. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Jim's memory to Windham Fire and Rescue, in gratitude for their exemplary care and friendship throughout the years. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Windham Fire and Police Departments for their compassion, care, and support on the day of Jim's passing.
