Windham-- Isabel (Robbins) Taylor, 102, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2017 after a brief illness. Isabel was born on July 14, 1914 in Mexico, Maine, the daughter of Albert and Annie Robbins. She attended schools in Frye and Roxbury and graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford. After high school she attended Farmington Normal School and The University of Maine, where she earned her Masters degree in Education. In 1935 Isabel began a teaching career that spanned 40 years in Roxbury and Windham schools, retiring in 1975. Also in 1935 Isabel married John H. Taylor and resided in Roxbury where they began their family. In 1951 she and John moved their family to Windham after purchasing a farm there. In addition to her love for teaching Isabel was a wonderful mother, mother in law, grandmother and homemaker. For many years she was active in the Crossroads Garden Club and the Windham Historical Society and was a member of the Maine Education Association. She was also awarded The Boston Post Cane in 2015. She also enjoyed traveling with her friends and spending time at the Taylor Camps on Mooselookmeguntic Lake, where she celebrated her 100th birthday. Isabel was predeceased by her husband John of 43 years, brothers Winfield and Frederick Robbins and son in law Brian Peavey. Isabel is survived by daughter Barbara A. Taylor of Newburyport, MA. and her friend Ken Anderson, daughter L. Elaine Libby and her husband Dick of Windham, daughter Alberta Peavey of Merrimac, MA., son John H. Taylor, Jr. and his wife Carol of Windham. Six grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, in laws, her close friend Emma Fickett, the Hill family, and other dear friends. The family would like to convey sincere appreciation to caregivers Kelly, Julie, Patti, Jackie, Teri, Jeanne and Patty who made it possible for Isabel to remain in her family home and additional thanks to the staff at Ledgewood Manor during her brief stay there. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 from 1pm to 3pm with a funeral service beginning at 3pm at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Rd., Windham, ME 04062. Spring interment will take place at Arlington Cemetery in Windham.
