Obituary

Hugh M. "Sonny" Butler Jr., 71, of Anglers Rd., Windham, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2016, at Maine Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born in Portland, the son of Hugh and Louise (Warren) Butler. Sonny served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He later took a position with the Portland School Dept. where he worked for 34 years before retiring. After retiring he worked at NAPA for several years to keep busy. Sonny was a little league baseball coach, bowled in leagues, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed being a part of Beech Ridge, four wheeling, and playing cribbage. Some of his favorite times were spent at his camp at Pettengil Pond, especially Sunday barbecues with his family. He also loved to spend time with his grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, his mother-in-law Evelyn Pressey, father-in-law Charles Pressey Sr, brother-in-law Charles Pressey Jr, and sister-in-law Sylvia Morrell. He is survived by his wife Loraine (Pressey) Butler of Windham; his sons Hugh (Skip) Butler III of Windham, and David Butler and his girlfriend Christine Giggey of Gray; daughter Sherry Billings of Waterboro; a brother Ray and wife Dottie Butler of Marlboro, MA; sisters Joyce Steere of Windham, and Susan Atwood of Portland; two grandchildren, Mackenzie and Ryan Butler;sister-in-law Lenny Pressey; and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held from 1 to 3 PM Sunday, Dec. 18, at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook, where a funeral service will be held at 1 PM Monday, Dec. 19.
