Obituary

Gorham, ME - Hubert Arthur Libby Jr., more commonly known as Huey, passed away on Monday January 8, 2024 at his home with family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on August 3rd, 1960 to Hubert Arthur Libby Sr. and Beverly Jean (Brown) Libby. He graduated from Gorham High School in 1978. Huey was loved by all who knew him. He could light up any room he walked into with his million-dollar smile and infectious laugh. He had the greatest sense of humor and always knew how to turn someone's day around. He was a loyal friend with a big heart, who would take the shirt off his back to help anyone who needed it. He was brave and strong, never giving up without putting up a fight. He was a hardworking man who felt like he always needed to be doing something. He had many accomplishments in life. One being in 1976, at the age of 15, when he received his CDL instead of your ordinary driver's license. He was the youngest in the state of Maine, and possibly the nation, to do so. According to the examiner, "young Libby put the rig through the course like a rodeo champ". He was passionate about trucks from a young age. Spending a lot of his younger days in the truck with his dad, Hub, Huey quite literally cut his teeth on the steering wheel of a big rig. Huey's biggest treasure in life was the birth of his son Brayden in June of 1997. In 2003, he met the woman who he would spend the rest of life with, Debbie, who had two children of her own; Cameron and Kathryn. He had many hobbies in life including building model airplanes, gardening, and cooking. He was a jack of all trades; he worked as a diesel mechanic, welder, business owner, and truck driver. In 2018, he and Debbie bought a 1987 Peterbilt 359 and began their dream of starting their own trucking business "Libby's Auto Transportation", hauling cars up and down the East Coast. He is survived by his significant other of 20 years Deborah Sloan of Gorham; his children Brayden Libby of Gorham, Kathryn Sloan and her spouse Nathaneil McCraw of Biddeford, and Cameron Sloan of Casco; two grandchildren, Luxe McFarland-Sloan and Levi McCraw; his sister Bethany Jones and her husband Greg Jones of Gorham; his brother-in-law Kerry Tottle of Limington; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents Hubert and Beverly Libby; his brother Thomas "Jimmy" Field and his sister Chispa Tottle. Visiting hours will be held Friday January 19, 2024 from 4:00 to 6:00pm at Dolby, Blais & Segee Funeral Home, 434 River Road, Windham. A celebration of life will be arranged within the coming weeks.
