Obituary

WESTBROOK - On October 24th 2017, Honor Marie Sanville, 94, passed away peacefully after a long and fulfilling life, with her daughter by her side in Westbrook, Maine. Honor lived a long and interesting life spanning nine decades, two husbands, many states, many schools, and a multitude of grandchildren and great grandchildren, to whom she was known as "Granna". Honor was born on January 28, 1923 in Elk Horn, Iowa. She grew up during the Great Depression and recalled selling Tupperware door to door with her headstrong mother. She attended Dana College in Blair, Nebraska where she met her first husband, Jack Christensen, a native of Westbrook, Maine. After they finished two years of college, Jack entered the war and Honor followed him in his various military assignments. When Jack was shipped overseas, Honor taught in a one room schoolhouse close to her hometown. After a time, Honor and her small daughter, Linda, moved to Maine where they took up residence with her husband's father, Albert Christensen. After the war, the family returned to Fargo, North Dakota, where Jack finished his engineering degree at North Dakota State University. They all lived with Honor's mother, sister and brother while he attended school. They returned to Maine in the late 1940's and their second child was born in 1949, a son named John Albert Christensen. Honor then began her teaching career and taught at the Hebrew Day school in Portland. She taught 20 years of first grade at Helena Dyer school in South Portland until retiring in 1982. During the course of Honor and Jack's marriage, the pair took up deer hunting and Honor even shot a ten point buck. Honor's first husband, Jack, died in October 1969. Honor married Lendell Sanville in August 1971. During the time they were married, they were active in square dancing and golf. Len died in March of 1998. Throughout her life, Honor was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was also very active in volunteering as well as encouraging all around her to follow suit, doing for others, taking care of people, and spending lots of quality time with her loving family. She'll be long remembered for her pieces of advice, both solicited and unsolicited, her endless spirit, and her dedication to doing the right thing even when it was hard. Honor is survived by her daughter, Linda Cain and husband Bill Cain, her siblings Joanne Potts and Maurice Lykke, her daughter in law, Mary Christensen, grandsons Christopher Cain, Joel Christensen, and Joshua Christensen, granddaughters Pamela Cameron and Amy Manchester, and 10 great grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held from 5:00-7:00pm on Friday, November 3, 2017 at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road, Windham. A memorial service will be celebrated at 11:00am on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 612 Main Street, Westbrook. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, at a later date.
