WINDHAM - Hermel R. Lavoie, 85, passed unexpectedly at Maine Medical Center on September 16, 2025. He was born June 5, 1940, in New Brunswick, Canada, the son of the late Aurele and Gertrude Lavoie. He was married in 1964 to Jeanne M. (Brissette) Lavoie and had one son Joseph. Hermel worked for Bristol stores for many years, then he opened his own business Mels Power Equipment, it was a very happy time for him. He moved to Maine in 1986 and worked at Nichols Portland for 19 years. Hermel had many skills. He loved gardening and made a large garden every year, which he would reap many many goodies from his labor. He would help Jeanne can many different relishes and tomatoes from his garden, his favorite. Even in retirement he maintained a garden and very large yard. He made good use of his time working on lawnmowers and repairing them for years and he was a very good carpenter as well. He enjoyed family meals, and the holidays when he could watch the children open gifts. He had a very good heart and helped out his son with his maple sugar business, he loved to go and help every maples season. He raised farm animals including beef cattle, horses, and pigs. He loved being outside and enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting, and fishing. He was loved very much by his wife and family. He loved God and neighbor, he was a great man. Hermel is predeceased by his parents and siblings; Rejeanne, Gisele, and Ivan. He is survived by his loving wife Jeanne, his son Joseph H. Lavoie and wife Darlene, grandchildren; Jessie Taylor and husband Corey, Joshua Lavoie and girlfriend Randi. Three great-grandchildren Sophia, Lilah, and Noah whom he adored. Brother Guildo and his wife Anne, and a sister Marie France and her husband Lesley Perley. A catholic mass will be held on Friday September 26th at 11 a.m. at St Hyacinth Church 268 Brown Street Westbrook, ME followed by a burial at St Hyacinth Cemetery.
