Harvey R. Bragdon, 89, formerly of Homosassa Springs, FL, and Standish, ME left us unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 17. He was born September 3, 1928 in Westbrook, ME at the home of his parents, the late Harold L. and Victoria (Harvey) Bragdon. He was raised in Westbrook and spent summers with his brothers and sisters at family cottages on Sebago Lake, Standish developing a love for the area and eventually building his own home there. Harvey attended Westbrook High school followed by service to his country as a Marine, receiving training at Corps Base Camp Lejeune, deploying to Puerto Rico and receiving honorable discharge. Harvey was perpetually industrious, starting his work life as young boy via a paper route and as drug store soda clerk. After his military service, he held increasingly responsible positions as a Master Electrician. As member of IBEW, he supervised critical services at S.D. Warren Company plants in Maine and then Muskegon, Michigan locations. Upon retirement, Harvey bought a house boat and navigated the Inland Water way from Muskegon to Florida. He set up a home in the Nature Coast /Crystal River area of Florida, where he developed and maintained a strong social network enjoying life with beloved friends and neighbors. This included Elkie burgers on Monday's, lunches at Luigi's Pizza, and hosting happy hours. He was an active member of both the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Harvey loved animals, caring for strays that included dogs, cats, and even a duck. He doled out daily treats to neighbors' dogs up until the final day of his life. Harvey was always doing something to challenge himself, including assembling an amateur radio setup at 88, maintaining his Electrician license, and even considering another houseboat. Although a handsome man of independent means who did it 'his way', Harvey's greatest love was for his immediate family. His home in Maine brims with pictures and memories of them. In addition to his parents, Harvey was predeceased by his brothers (George, John, and William). He is survived by his two sisters (Jane Shaw of Portland and Elaine Robinson of Standish); two sisters-in-law's (Carol Bragdon of Standish and Bette Bradgdon of Westbrook) as well as many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Thursday, February 8, 2018 from 4-6 PM, at the Westbrook Chapel of Dolby, Blais & Segee, 35 Church St., Westbrook. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Friday, Feb 9, 2018 at St. Anthony of Padua, 268 Brown Street, Westbrook. Private committal will be held in the spring at family plot in Woodlands Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to attend a luncheon in church parish hall following the services.
