PORTLAND- Harold Aamold, 97, died September 2, 2017 at Ledgewood Manor in Windham. He was born March 3, 1920 to Carl and Ruby (Bennett) Aamold in Stanford, Montana. He served his country in World War II and was a survivor of Pearl Harbor, and other conflicts throughout his 26 years of service to the Navy. After retiring from Navy he worked at Nissan Bakery and Sears. He loved fishing, hunting and the great outdoors. He belonged to the Falmouth Rod and Gun Club, serving as President and holding other offices. He kept active by walking and bowling on the Forever Young Bowling League of Portland. He is survived by his sons, Wayne Aamold of Maryland, and Gary Aamold and wife Mary of Pennsylvania; niece Josie Winslow and husband Harvey of Windham; grandson John Aamold and wife Katie of Maryland, granddaughters, Stacy Hojnowski and husband Anthony of Texas, and Amber Roth and husband Kyle of Pennsylvania; grandnephew Scott Winslow and wife Debbie of Windham, Kelly Emery and husband Heath of Windham, nieces Barbara Henningsen of Portland, Delores Morse of Windham and nephew Michael Curran of Portland. Harold is also survived by his long-time friend and companion Jane Smith, formerly of Westbrook, six great grandchildren and many grand nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by five brothers and one sister, as well as his wife, Mary Ann (Connolly) Aamold. Harold's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Ledgewood Manor for their compassion and care. A visitation will be held on Monday, September 11 from 5pm to 7pm at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Rd., Windham, ME 04062. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday September 12 at 12noon at the Maine Veteran's Cemetery, 305 Civic Center Dr., Augusta, ME 04330.
