Obituary

H. Arlene (Tibbetts) Kelley-Lord, passed away Friday, March 7, 2014. Her daughters find comfort knowing she was joined in her next journey by her best friend Shirley.  They died within minutes of one another. She was born October 23, 1918 on the family farm and was the oldest of 12 children.  She weighed in at a whopping 1 ½ pounds and her parents Harold and Hazel Tibbetts kept her in a shoebox in the kitchen oven to stay warm. She was educated in the Hermon schools system, graduating with honors in 1937.  She was on the editorial board, chorus, drama club, and was captain of the girls basketball team her senior year.  Standing all of 5' tall she made up for her small stature with feistiness. She worked for Allen Drug Store and O.C. Bean Newspaper in Bangor. Arlene loved dancing, and won many Marathon Dancing Competitions.  She also loved golfing and bowling.  She was a 20 year member of the Falmouth Suburbanettes Candle Pin Bowling League.  She also enjoyed camping, fishing, and snowmobiling with her family and many special friends. She married William T. Kelley of Hermon in 1938, moving to the Prides Corner area of Westbrook.  There they built their home and raised four daughters.  Arlene worked in the home office of her husband's construction company and tended a large garden.  She was active in the Prides Corner Community Club, and was a member of the PTA.  Mostly she enjoyed being a stay at home Mom who loved taking care of her family. In 1980 they retired and moved to their cottage on Sebago Lake.  There they enjoyed a wonderful community of friends hosting clam bakes, ice-out parties, and card games.   Her loving husband of 51 years died in 1989.  She remarried in 1997 to Wildon Lord.  For three years they were snowbirds, living in Florida during the winter and back to her beloved cottage in Summer.  Mr Lord passed away in 2000.  For the past nine years Arlene lived with her daughter Sherry, son-in-law Arn and grandsons AJ and Spencer of Scarborough.  She was much loved and well taken care of while living in her own in-law apartment. Besides her two husbands Mrs. Lord was predeceased by brothers Wallace, Everett, and Paul, and sisters Esther, Pearl, Gladys, Flora, and baby Janet. She is survived by her daughters Jane A. Graffam, Joyce K. Minott,  and Kimberley A. Kelley, all of Westbrook, and  Sherry Lynn Kelley-Heggers of Scarborough, 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 3 brothers Earl, Ralph, and Roscoe, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would like to thank Brenda Thomas, Nancy Pogar and her nurse Sarah for their kindness, help and dedication and the loving care given our Mom. Private services will be held in care of Blais & Hay Funeral Home, Westbrook.  Interment will be in Brooklawn Memorial Park.  On line condolences may be expressed at blaisandhyafuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association.
