Obituary

Gregory P. Alexander 72 of Westbrook, passed away on Monday, March 31, 2025, at Maine Medical Center after a brief illness. Many years ago, Greg also had a courageous and successful battle with cancer. Despite taking its toll physically, cancer did not defeat him, discourage him or alter his zest for life. Born in Lewiston on November 16, 1952, to Paul L. Alexander and Betty Ann Halverson. Greg grew up on Pettingill Pond, in Windham where he was free to enjoy all-of-the natural gifts the woods and waters of Maine has to offer. Greg spent most of his adult life as a resident of Westbrook, where he was always known to his many friends and family members as a dedicated hard worker who was committed, loyal and dependable. On September 30, 1978, Greg married his wife Jo-Dene (Jodi) Melanson. Jodi and Greg would soon welcome their only son, Nicholas, and would settle into Westbrook Maine where they built their life together. Greg began his long and distinguished career working with Blue Rock Industries. He later proudly served the citizens of Westbrook in the Public Works Department, where he held a variety of positions operating trucks and heavy equipment. Whenever there was a snow- storm (or other City Emergency requiring a response from Public Works) Greg was there day, night, weekends and/or holidays, to ensure the roads were cleared and made safe. He would later join the Westbrook Public Works Management Team before his retirement. Unable to sit idle, post-retirement Greg would move on and work as a Truck Driver for Hannaford/Delhaize and later Nelson Property Management. Greg had a passion for truck driving and operating equipment. He was known to be highly skilled, dedicated and committed to safety. In his spare time, Greg enjoyed cruising Sebago Lake in his pontoon boat while accompanied by his wife and family. He and Jodi also enjoyed RV trips in their 38 Ft. Motorhome with their dogs, including the "trip of a lifetime" together to the West Coast and Alaska. Greg is survived by his loving wife Jodi, his son Nicholas and Nicholas' fiancé Brittany Bisson. Greg is also survived by his brother David of Kenai, Alaska and a sister Beth of South Portland. He is also survived by several half and stepbrothers and stepsisters as well as many nieces and nephews. Greg was pre-deceased by his father Paul and his mother Betty Ann, and a brother John Edward Alexander. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 22 at the Dolby, Blais & Segee funeral home, 35 Church Street in Westbrook, ME at 10:00 am until 11:30 am, with services to follow at 11:30 am. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Westbrook. Donations may be made to: The Snell Foundation of New England Cancer Specialists 11 Rock Row, Suite 310 Westbrook, ME 04092
