Grace Irene (West) Parker formerly of Westbrook Maine passed away September 24th at Hawthorne House, Freeport Maine
Grace was born November 30th 1944 in Portland Maine to Clyde W West and Jesse I (Gilpatrick ) West. She attended Portland schools and on November 9th 1963 Grace married Walter G Parker in Portland Maine at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. They have four children, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Through the years Grace was employed at Key Bank in Portland, the Comfort Inn in South Portland, the Portland Jetport and the Goodwill store in Gorham. She enjoyed working in the public and loved to talk, tell stories and joke around. She would start a conversation with anyone and anywhere, including in line at the grocery store.
Grace loved to bake and sweets were her favorite. She would often bake cookies and make fudge for family, friends and coworkers. She baked all of the Thanksgiving pies such as pumpkin, lemon meringue and custard. If you had a favorite she would make it. Family were not the only ones included at Thanksgiving or other get togethers. If someone didn’t have family or a place to go, they were always welcome and included. She had a generous heart.
Grace moved to Hawthorne House in Freeport a few years ago due to her Alzheimers. She was well cared for and loved by many of the staff. They called her ‘ Gracie’ or Grammy. She had a sense of humor, loved talking and would dance with the staff when music was played. She enjoyed her family visits and loved her treats such as Pepsi or a Kit Kat candy bar.
Grace was predeceased by her parents Clyde and Jesse West, a sister Dorothy (Jean) Merritt and Claudia (Penny) Patterson.
She is loved and will be missed by her husband of 62 years, Walter G Parker of Westbrook. Three daughters Michelle Evans and husband John of Auburn , Melissa Parker of Buxton , Theresa Shepherd and husband Robert of Marshalltown Iowa and son Aaron Parker of Waterboro. Seven grandchildren, Alicia , Ian , Emily, Eric , Kristi ,Colleen and Michael. Four great grandchildren , Kyle , Owen ,Luca and Lily. A brother , Clyde D West and wife Jody of Glenburg Maine. Many nieces and nephews.
A Graveside service will be November 9, 2026, 11:00 AM at St. Hyacinth Cemetery in Westbrook Maine. The family would like to thank the staff at Hawthorne House in Freeport Maine for the care and compassion given to Grace and her family.
