Obituary

GORHAM—Godardo Abaño, 74, of Gorham, died March 30, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was born in Manila, Philippines on June 27, 1942, a son of Francisco and Mercedes (Escobar) Abaño. Godardo grew up in the Philippines where he attended school and graduated from the University of the East in Manila with an accounting degree. In October of 1969, he married Conception Escobar. Together, they raised their family and moved to Australia in 1977, where they resided for four years before moving to San Francisco. Godardo spent his working years as an accountant, retiring in 2002. An engineer at heart, Godardo or "Dardo" enjoyed tinkering and building cars, especially with his brother. A jack of all trades, he was also a skilled carpenter and built furniture. Some of his favorite pastimes were going to antique shops and fishing on the ocean, especially when he lived in San Francisco and Australia. Above all, he was a family man who valued spending time with his loved ones; teaching his daughters everything from playing catch to maintaining their vehicles. He was adored by his wife, daughters, and grandchildren and will be missed greatly. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Concepcion "Connie" Abaño of Gorham; daughters, Camille Drover and her husband David of Stanford, CA, and Giuia Grady and her husband Ken of Gorham; grandchildren, Ella and Sam, Ryan and Caitlin; a brother, Rene Abaño and his wife Darla of Chicago, IL, and a sister Susan Gesmundo of the Philippines. He was predeceased by his parents, and brothers Francisco Abaño Jr., and Alfredo Abaño.A visitation will be held on Monday, April 3, 2017 from 5pm to 7pm at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 76 State St., Gorham, ME 04038.
