Our mother was an amazing woman surviving the death of her husband and our father Frank Barrett. In 1954 she moved all of us to Sebago Lake Village, leaving Machias in the hopes of providing a better life for herself and children. She bought and operated the Sebago Lake Store and Restaurant working 7 days a week until 11 PM. Gloria had an incredible zest for life. She participated in local and state politics. She loved two holidays in particular; Halloween when she would dress up and decorate the store and Christmas. We owned the first color TV in our village and our dining room and living room were frequently occupied by friends, family and neighbors watching Bonanza on a Sunday night. She re-married Arthur Pitts in the late 60's and they bought a home in Scarborough and ran his cookie franchise "Archway Cookies". They wintered in Lakeland, Florida for several years. After retirement they had a Winnebago they traveled all over the US. Then they bought a house in Lakeland Florida where they wintered for several years. And before you leave the "Downeast Room" be sure to sign the guest book! Visiting hours will be from 11AM to 1 PM Saturday followed by a funeral service at 1PM at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook. Interment will be Friday, Nov. 14 at 1 PM at the Maine Veterans Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
