Obituary

Gloria Jean O'Beirne, 72, of Windham passed away peacefully on October 28, 2018, with her family at her side. Gloria was born in Princeton, NJ, on January 25,1946, to Josephine and Henry Recke. She grew up in Rocky Hill, NJ, and graduated from Villa Victoria Academy as Valedictorian of her class. She attended the College of St. Elizabeth in Morristown, NJ, and earned her master's degree in Mathematics from Dayton University. She moved to Maine in 1976 to pursue her teaching career at Gray-New Gloucester High School, University of Southern Maine and Lake Region High School. After moving to Maine, she met her husband Kevin T. O'Beirne of Glens Falls, NY. Gloria and Kevin married in 1981 and had three children: Tirzah Annin, Ellen Eliza, and Patrick Rein. In her free time, Gloria enjoyed crafting, gardening, and cooking at home. She took an abiding interest in genealogy, researching the Recke and O'Beirne families across New England and New York through generations. She could not resist exploring any scenic ocean-side restaurants along the Maine coast, especially Two Lights, and held a special love for lighthouses, including Nubble Light and Portland Head Light. She enjoyed telling stories about her childhood and was especially fond of remembering her grandfather's dairy farm and the time that she, as a little girl, met Albert Einstein. Above all, Gloria loved children. Beyond devoting her career to teaching mathematics, she liked to spend time with her two daughters, her son, and her four grandchildren. She could not resist doting on any baby and would invariably be the one cradling him or her throughout any social event where one was present. Gloria is survived by her husband Kevin O'Beirne of Windham, ME; daughter Tirzah Weiskotten and son-in-law Chip Weiskotten of Washington, DC; daughter Ellen O'Beirne of Florida; son Patrick O'Beirne and daughter-in-law Jessica O'Beirne of Atkinson, NH; grandchildren Maggie, Teagan, Ashlyn and Everett; five sisters and one brother; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 1, from 5-7 P.M at the Windham Chapel of Dolby, Blais & Segee, 434 River Road Windham. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 919 Roosevelt Trl., Windham, at 11 A.M on Friday, November 2. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Gloria's name to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, whose mission Gloria always admired and supported.
